Central Bed of Transfer Machines - The bed may be straight, U shaped, or circular depending upon a particular situation. The bed may be cast or fabricated as single unit or it may be built up of a number of units. The upper surface of the bed has guide ways for grinding and supporting the parts.

Arrangements are there for transferring parts on the bed to each of the machining heads which are dowelled and bolted into the sides of the bed.

Bed also incorporates means for clamping and locating the parts at each station. Roll overs may also be provided on the bed for rotating the workpieces for appropriate operations. Arrangements are there under the bed for carrying away the swarf and receiving the coolant/lubricant.
