Inline Transfer Machine OperationsInline Transfer Machine Operations - The arrangement consists of a central bed onto the sides of which are attached machining heads at a convenient fixed pitch (usually 1m). The central bed depending on the availability of shop floor space may be in the form of a straight line or an L, square or rectangular pattern. The component is transferred along guide rails on the central bed.The component may be loaded manually or automatically onto the central bed, and transferred from station to station where it is automatically located through dowels and clamped. The component can be presented to the machining head in any desired position by using turntables or turn over devices.Drilling, tapping, reaming, boring, counterboring, spot facing, chamfering, counter sinking, milling, grooving and sometimes even broaching can be carried out at a station. An automatic lubrication system and automatic safety devices form parts of the transfer machine arrangement. Transfer machining of cylinder blocks and other engine parts such as cylinder heads, gear box casings and axle box casings are transfer machined by manufacturers of quantity produced cars. |
