Broach Holders

Broach Holders - Special pull ends are provided on broaches for holding them in puller heads in broaching machines. The pull end configuration depends upon the broach type and construction of the puller head, which holds it.

A to e are cylindrical and are used for broaches machined between centres, while the pull ends f to g are square (or flat). The threaded puller of the key type puller is simple and inexpensive but relatively slow.

The automatic puller is favored for production, especially on machines with broach elevators and automatic handling equipment. When the sleeve on this puller is pushed backward by hand or by striking a stop the puller accepts or releases the broach shanks.

1 - Body 2 - Sleeve and locked with edge 3 - Sleeve

It has body 1, jaws 2 swinging on pivots and plates 3 which hold the jaws. The jaws are urged toward each other by means of suitable springs and pusher rods. When the pull end of a broach is inserted into the puller head, the jaws enter the recesses and the pull end and lock it.

It is the puller head for wedge locked broaches. The puller head has body 1 which accommodates change sleeve 3. The pull end of a broach is inserted by hand into the sleeve and locked with wedge 2.
