Horizontal Broaching MachinesHorizontal Broaching Machines - Horizontal broaching machines are general purpose machines and may be used for high or low production quantities. For machines incorporating extremely long strokes (more than about 2000 mm), horizontal movement is the most practical. Horizontal machines for internal broaching are further classified as pull or push machines, depending on how force is applied to the broach.
The main units are mounted on bed 4. The base houses hydraulic drive 3 which are powered by electric motor 1. The piston in the cylinder of the hydraulic drive actuates main ram 2. The front end of the ram is supported by pulling slide 5. The slide has broach puller head 6 for securing the pull end of broach S. The other end of the broach is supported by follower rest 9. Workpiece 7 is held tightly against the platen in the broaching operation by the cutting force. Devices are embodied in the design of the hydraulic system for varying the length of stroke and speed of pulling slide 5. This enables broaches of various lengths to be used and broaching to be done at the most expedient cutting speeds. A typical horizontal broaching machine has the following: specifications: Rated pulling force... 196 KN (20,000 kgf) Length of slide stroke...Max) 600 mm, Min 230 mm. Cutting stroke speed...Max 6 m/min, Min 0.6 m/min. Return stroke speed...20 m/min . Motor power...18.7 kW. |
