Drilling
and
Reaming
Machines
There are very few engineering components that do not have holes in them somewhere or other.
Holes
in
thin
metal
sheets
may
be
made
by
hand
tools
suck
as
chisel.
But,
if
a
hole
of
say
6
mm
diameter
is
required
in
a
25
mm
thick
steel
plate,
a
drill
and
a
drilling
machine
must
be
used.
A
drill
is
a
rotary
end-cutting
tool
with
(one
or)
more
cutting
lips
and
usually
(one
or)
more
flutes
for
the
passage
of
chips
and
the
admission
of
cutting
fluid.
A
drilling
machine
is
a
machine
tool
designed
for
drilling
holes
in
metals,
many
operations,
other
than
drilling
a
round
hole,
can
also
be
performed
on
the
drilling
machine.
Some
of
these
are,
sanding,
counter
boring,
countersinking.
honing,
reaming,
lapping
etc,
