Cutting of Bevel Gears - The following methods may be employed for the cutting of straight and spiral bevel gears:

(i) Milling

(ii)Template machining

(iii) Form cutting

(iv) Helix form cutting

(v) Cyclex method

(vi) Face mill cutting, etc.

(vii) Planing generator.

 Milling sometimes is used for cutting straight bevel gears when production requirements are low and accuracy is not critical. Template machine and planing in a gear generator are more often used for cutting teeth in gears larger than 80 cm O.D.
