Cutting Rotary Broaching of Straight Bevel GearsCutting Rotary Broaching of Straight Bevel Gears - Bevel gears small in size may be cut by rotary or circular broaching. This is a forming process. The broach has roughing teeth 1, finishing teeth 2 and zone 3 in which the gear blank is indexed one tooth. Since the whole tooth space is machined in one revolution .of the broach, the teeth gradually increase in height and thickness.
Rotary Broaching of Small Straight Bevel Gears
Besides rotating at a constant speed, the rotary broach also travels in a straight line at a variable rate during various parts of its travel. Thus, tbe path of working motion of each formrelieved tooth is the sum of the velocities of rotary and straight line motion of the broach. In roughing, the broach travels from the vertex of the pitch cone toward the back cone; in finishing it travels in the opposite direction. As tooth space is being broached, tbe gear blank is stationary. When zone 3, not occupied by broach teeth, reaches the gear blank, the latter is indexed one tooth.
