Generation Gear Grinding MethodGeneration Gear Grinding Method - Generation method is always used for the grinding of spiral bevel and hypoid gears, The method is based upon the principle of meshing the work gear with a basic rack, one tooth (or tooth profile) of which is represented by the surfaces (or surface) of the grinding wheel. Generation gear grinding with two saucer shaped wheels is shown in Fig. a, Here two grinding wheels 1, are set so that narrow bands on the flat sides of the grinding wheel form the sides of teeth of imaginary basic rack 2 which meshes with work gear 3. The work gear is mounted on an arbor or between the centres of a carriage which provides a rotating motion of the gear about its axis and a reciprocating motion of this axis in a lateral direction, thereby simulating roll of the work gear along the imaginary rack. At the end of each roll motion, the work gear is indexed to grind the next teeth.
