FoundationsFoundations - The foundations, (i)Carries and supports the weight of the machine tool. (ii)aligns the machine tool. (iii) absorbs vibrations produced during the machine tool operation. General requirements of machine foundations: (i) The foundation should be able to carry the superimposed loads without causing shear or crushing failure. (ii) The combined centre or gravity of machine and foundation should as far as possible be in the same vertical line as the centre of gravity of the base plane. (iii) No resonance should occur; hence the natural frequency of foundation soil system should be either too large or too small compared to the operating frequency of the machine tool. For low-speed machines, the natural frequency should be high and vice-versa (iv)Machine foundation should be separated from the adjacent machine's foundations.
