Transportation of Machine Tools

Transportation of Machine Tools - The machine tool is transported to the erection site by a crane. Only Hemp or Manila ropes should be used when slinging the machine because chains or wire ropes tend to slip. Provide felt padding where the rope passes over projected machine parts to avoid damaging them.

The rope should be able to withstand a load of at least 2000 kg. The rope should be slung in such a manner that it does not rest on any servicing or any, other easily vulnerable part of the machine. Besides it is necessary to lock the machine tool table etc., in 'ill the directions by means of locking screws.

In case no crane is available at the site, steel rollers or tubes are used to transport the machine and are placed underneath the machine base in such a manner that there are at least two rollers/tubes at a time beneath the base.

The tubes are successively placed under the front part of the base prior to shifting the machine tool, until the site of the erection is reached. While transporting the machine tool, special care should be taken to avoid shocks at any cost as they will impair the accuracy and may damage some parts of the machine tool.
