Maintenance Approach |

Maintenance ApproachMaintenance Approach - The approach to maintenance shall vary from company to company, according to its organization and the type of production on which its plant is engaged. Regardless of this, however, the objectives remain the same; to avoid disruption to production and to ensure that the machine produces at maximum efficiency. Many aspects of maintenance should be carried out on a routine basis as laid down in the maker's manual, particularly so as regards oiling and greasing. In those industries engaged on line production, the provision of routine services is an accepted principle, since the unexpected failure of a single machine can cause disruption to the production line. Similarly on high capital cost machines and on individual machines which are critical to a company's total production programme and economy, special precautions are normally taken to ensure that the machine continues in production. It is with the commonplace small to medium range of machines, usually employed in jobbing shops, that maintenance is neglected. Many companies employ personnel to provide a routine lubrication service; where no such service is provided then it is essential that the operators and supervisors are fully instructed in their responsibilities in carrying out this activity.
