Drilling of PlasticsDrilling of Plastic - Due to the resilience of plastics, it is often necessary to use 0.05 to 0.125 mm oversize drills if the drilled diameter is to be maintained. Drills with po polished, open flutes are best. The standard 118° point drill is used for acetal, ABS, epoxy, and PVC. A 140° point angle is suggested for drilling polycarbonates. A 90" point angle may work better on other plastics. Drill feeds should be fairly heavy so that the heat is removed with the chips. An exception is polycarbontate. |
