Constructional Features of Horizontal Boring Machines - HBMConstructional Features of Horizontal Boring Machines - HBM - The essential features of such a machine are: (i) The bed supports the whole structure of the HBM. (ii) The worktable that can be moved and fed in two directions in a horizontal plane. (iii) A headstock that can be moved vertically. (iv)A rotating spindle that can hold boring bar and cap be fed horizontally. (v) An end support column to support a long boring bar. The end of the boring bar is held in alignment by the outboard bearing. (vi)The saddle is mounted on the bed ways and the worktable is mounted on the saddle. The saddle can move longitudinally, and the table has a traverse feed. For boring, the power is transmitted through the speed change gear box and vertical transmission shaft to the headstock and finally to the boring bar, causing it to rotate. A wide choice of speeds is available. Either hand or power feed can be used depending upon the nature of work to be done. |
