Jig Boring MachinesJig Boring Machines - A jig boring machine gets its name from the fact that it is so often used to drill and bore holes needed for drill jigs. A jig boring machine is designed for locating and boring holes in jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges and other precision parts to an accuracy of +- 0'0025 mm.
Jig Boring Machines It is a precision tool room machine intended for laying out, centering, drilling, reaming and finishing boring holes, machining form contours, milling boss face surfaces etc.
Jig borers are very accurate vertical type boring machines, designed for U3e in making jigs and fixtures. They are used as coordinate measuring machines for inspection and precision layout operations. Jig borers ere widely used at present because they make it possible to bore holes rapidly and accurately to given center distances. While such machines are designed primarily for boring holes in jigs, they are also used for various other classes of precision hole boring. Jig boring is that class of work which occurs commonly in connection with the construction of jigs and fixtures. A jig boring machine resembles a vertical milling machine, but is constructed with greater precision and is equipped with accurate measuring devices for controlling table movements. This machine is also designed to be operated by numerical control. No jigs whatever are required in this machine to ensure accuracy of location. For this purpose, use is made of special devices ensuring accurate positioning of machine's operative members, including (i) Precision lead screw and out mechanisms equipped with vernier dials, (ii) Slip gauges and adjustable gauges in combination with dial indicators, (iii) Precision scales in combination with optical readout devices, (iv) Screw type inductive transducer; and also (v) Mechanical, optical mechanical, optical, optico etectric, and electrical measuring systems. To prevent the influence of ambient temperature changes on machining, jig boring machines should be installed in special environmental enclosures with temperature maintained at a level of 20°C.
