Types of Vertical Boring Machines - VBM

Types of Vertical Boring Machines - VBM - Vertical boring machines are of two types;

(a) Standard vertical boring mill

(b) Vertical turret lathe.

A standard vertical boring mill and its different parts have been explained above.

This boring milt is used for machining the inside, outside and the face of symmetrical objects such as locomotive wheel tyres, big castings, turbine runners, flanges and pressure vessels etc. Large boring machines, today, are equipped with numerical control. This permits the operator to make tool settings merely by setting dials and also to preset the adjustment for a cut.

The pressing of a button at the conclusion of a cut causes the tool to move very quickly to the proper position for the next cut. This greatly reduces the amount of machine controlling time and thereby increases the productivity of such large and costly machines.
