Grinding
Machines
Grinding is
one
of
the
most
versatile
of
all
the
machining
processes.
It
can
be
applied
successfully
to
almost
any
component
requiring
precision
machining
especially
if
the
accuracy
or
surface
finish
required
can
not
easily
be
achieved
by
other
machining
processes
The
range
of
materials
which
can
be
ground
extends
from
rubber
to
hardest
carbidesSurface
finishes
of
less
than
0.025µm CLA
are
obtainable
under
suitable
conditions,
while
stock
removal
rates
can
exceed
160
cm3
per
minute
on
large,
heavy
duty
machines.
Grinder
or
grinding
machines
are
the
terms
applied
to
those
machine
tools
which
employ
an
abrasive
wheel
for
the
purpose
of
removing
excess
stock,
at
the
same
time
leaving a
good
finish
on
the
work.
Grinding however,
is
a
rather
slow
way
to
remove
stock
thus
other
methods
are
used
to
bring
the
work
quite
close
to
its
final
size
and
then
the
work
is
ground
to
achieve
the
desired
finish.
