Edge OR Plate Type Planers - This type of planer was devised for machining the edges of heavy steel plates for pressure vessels and armour plate.
The plate is clamped to a bed and the side mounted carriage supporting the cutting tool is moved back and forth along the edge. Cutting can take place during both directions of the carriage travel.
