Electrical Feed MechansimElectrical Feed Mechansim - The friction feed disc mechanism has been superseded by electrically driven feed mechanism in many modem planers. The arrangement comprises a separate feed motor which is energised simultaneously with the table reversal and makes a predetermined number of revolutions to actuate the mechanical elements in the feed motion. The amount of feed is determined by the setting of trips on a dial, the distance apart regulating the number of revolutions made by the motor. At the appropriate time the trips cut off the supply of current to the motor and apply dynamic braking. Electrical devices such as solenoid lifting of the tool boxes on the return stroke may be incorporated in the system. Lifting of tool boxes on the return stroke is very essential when using carbide tools; otherwise the tools may be damaged.
