Hydraulic Drive
Hydraulic Drive - A hydraulic drive system of planer provides a wide range or cutting speeds. The hydraulic drive system of a planer is similar to that used in a shaper (refer page 263) but with certain modifications because of the following reasons:
(i) Stroke length of a planer is much longer than that of the shaper.
(ii) Higher cutting and return speeds very much stress the oil pipe lines during the time of reversal. More than one cylinder may be employed in some cases to eliminate this difficulty.Fig. shows a, hydraulic system to actuate the worktable and tool travel of a planer.
