Pit Type Planers |

Pit Type PlanersPit Type Planers - A pit type planer differs from the first two types described above in the sense that the table and the workpiece resting on it are stationary, and the tool reciprocates. The
columns
and
crossrail
carrying
tool
heads
move
longitudinally
on
massive
rails
above
the
worktable.
Toolheads,
usually
restricted
to
two
in
number,
are
mounted
on
the
crossrail
for
two
way
planing.
Pit planers are used only for very large work, where the weight of the workpiece and the required table would make reciprocation difficult and severely limit cutting speeds. |
