Planer Size and SpecificationPlaner Size and Specification - The size of a planer is specified from the measurement of the largest job that can be held on its table and pass under and between housings. Size of a double housing planer is designated by the distance between the vertical housings in mm, the distance from the table to the rail in its uppermost position in mm, and the maximum length of the table travel in metres. These dimensions indicate the size of the largest workpiece that can be planed on the machine tool. For open side planer, a planing width is substituted for the distance between housings. This width is the distance from the table side of the housing to the maximum outward position of the tool in the outer tool head. Plate or edge planers are designated by the length of the maximum plate that can be machined.
