Band FilingBand Filing --A band filing machine resembles a vertical band saw with the difference that instead of the conventional band saw blade this machine employs a file band and is used for filing work. -The file band is made up of files mounted on a flexible Swedish steel band. -A light to medium pressure is used and the filing speed ranges from 15 to 60 m/min. -The filing operation is accomplished with a continuous downward stroke. The absence of a backstroke greatly lengthens the life of the file and helps in holding the work on to the table. -Files used in the file band may be: (i) Single cut, double cut and rasp cut. Rasp cut differs from the other two in that the teeth are disconnected from each other each tooth being made by a single punch. (ii) Rough, coarse, bastard, double cut and smooth. (iii) Flat, oval, half round and mill.
