Band Saw BladesBand Saw Blades - Band saw blades cut a kerf of only 1'5 mm compared to 3 mm for power hacksaws and abrasive disc saws and 6 mm for cold saws. This represents a considerable saving especially when cutting large stock or expensive material. -Band saw blades of carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel and high speed steel are available. Also, composite blades with high speed steel or tungsten carbide teeth welded to a carbon steel back are available. High speed steel blades are preferred for cut off work because they provide long service life at high cutting speeds. -Common blade widths are 6, 9, 12'7, 16, 18 and 25 mm. -Blades 25 mm or wider are normally used became their high strength can tolerate the heavier loading encountered in high feed rates. -Common pitches are 1'5, 2, 2'5, 3 and 4 mm.
