Combination Cut Off and Contour Band SawCombination Cut Off and Contour Band Saw - This machine can be used for cut off work as well as for contour sawing e.g., cutting irregular shapes in connection with making dies. -A combination saw resembles a vertical band saw except for the following differences: (i) The work table is pivoted so that it can be tilted to any angle up to 45°. (ii) A small flash butt-welder is provided, on the vertical column, so that the band saw blade can be welded quickly into a continuous band. This feature is there in some vertical band saw machines also. (iii) A small grinding wheel is located beneath the welder to grind away the flash from the weld to provide a smooth joint that will pass through the saw guides. (iv)A wide range of blade speeds can be obtained to provide correct operating conditions for any material. Speed, available range from 16 to 650 meter per minute. (v) A method of power feeding the work is provided. -The welding and grinding unit in the machine makes it possible to cut internal openings on the workpiece by drilling a hole, inserting one end of the saw blade through the hole, and then butt welding the two ends together. When the cut is finished, the band is cut apart and removed from the opening. -Such machines are made in a wide range of sizes, the principle size dimension being the throat depth. Sizes vary from 30 cm to 180 cm.
