Tooth Spacing of Saw BladesTooth Spacing of Saw Blades -Tooth spacing controls the size of the teeth. From ft strength view point, large teeth should be used. In addition, with large teeth, the space between the teeth tends to be large, and this spacing must be sufficient to contain the chip that is formed without crowding. However, the tooth spacing should be such that at least two teeth bear on the work at all times. This is particularly important in cutting thin material such as tubing. If the teeth are too coarse, only one teeth rests on the work at a given time, permitting the saw to rock, and the teeth may be stripped from the saw. Tooth spacing for power hacksaw blades range from 4 to 18 teeth per 25 mm. The pitch of a saw blade is the distance between the tops of two adjacent teeth. The most used pitches are 4, 6, 8, 10 and 14 teeth per inch (approximately 6. 4, 3, 2.5 and 1.8 mm- pitch).
