Hydraulic Drive and Slotted Link DriveHydraulic Drive and Slotted Link Drive - Such a drive is used in large modern slotting machines. The drive is similar to that employed for the shapers. Of course, the hydraulic cylinder is, in vertical direction. Slotted link drive: Slotted link drive is used in heavier types of slotting machines. The slotted link drive mechanism for the slotters.
The drive from the electrical motor is transmitted by enclosed vee belts to a gearbox through a clutch with a built in brake. The large helical toothed stroke wheel takes its drive from the gearbox and this wheel carries a bronze sliding die block. This block slides in ways cut on the face of the large oscillating slotted link which is connected to the ram of the slotter by means of the forked connecting link. The end of the slotted link opposite the machine ram is enlarged to balance the ram. The stroke of the slotter is adjusted by varying the radius at which the sliding die block rotates with the stroke wheel. The vertical positioning of the ram is effected from its front through a pair of bevels and a screwed connection to the fastening at the forked link.
