Slotter Drive Mechanisms - -There are, mainly, three types of driving mechanisms used in slotters for driving the ram:

(i) Slotted disc mechanism,

(ii) Variable speed reversible motor drive,

(iii) Hydraulic drive,

(iv) Slotted link drive.

The ram carrying the tool moves vertically up and down and cuts only in the downward stroke. The return stroke or the upward stroke is completed in a shorter period of time than the cutting stroke.
