Slotter Feed MechanismSlotter Feed Mechanism - The work table or the workpiece being machined is imparted (i) Longitudinal (ii) Cross, and (iii) Circular feeds. In longitudinal feed, the table is fed perpendicular to the column, towards or away from its face. In cross feed, the table is fed Parnell to the face of column, The circular feed is accomplished by the revolving worktable, equipped with a suitable indexing mechanism. The revolving table is mounted on the main machine's table, installed on the horizontal ways of the machine column. The feed movement to the worktable is either by (i) Hand or by (ii) Power. The power feed mechanism makes use of a ratchet and pawl mechanism. The feed shaft engaged with cross, longitudinal/rotary feed screws has the ratchet mounted on it. The ratchet is moved by a small amount in one direction only with the help of a connecting rod, lever, and the roller that moves in the cam groove cut on the face of the bull gear of the slotting machine.
Feed Mechanism of a Slotter
As in the case of shaper, the feed movement in slotter also is intermittent and is provided at the beginning of the cutting stroke.
