Robot Basic ConfigurationRobot Basic Configuration - Industrial robots come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are capable of various arm manipulations and they possess different motion systems. This section discusses the various basic physical configurations of robots. The following four basic Configurations can be combined in various ways to produce a variety of robotic combinations
Cartesian
Spherical
Articulated
Cylindrical Although most robots swivel, the arm design varies from manufacturer to manufacturer; making this feature the most noticeable difference in robot design. There are four machines that are illustrative of robot design. The first two uses a horizontal arm affixed to a vertical column. The third uses a turret action similar to the gun turret on a tank. The fourth has a jointed arm similar to a back hole on a tractor.
