- Fig illustrates a test for alignment of centres with spindle axis. The reflectors fit to the centre shank and to a mandrel placed
between the centres, In order to avoid using the autocollimator uncomfortably close to the tailstock or mandrel, an optical square can be used in the manner indicated.
Means of readings on each reflector in two positions at 180° rotation arc taken the difference representing the error in alignment.
