Checking Alignment of Over Arm Support Bracket

Checking Alignment of Over Arm Support Bracket - A dial gauge (G) is clamped to the spindle (S) and arranged with the plunger bearing on a mandrel (M) which is a good fit in the bore of the bracket (B). The spindle (S) is rotated by hand to bring the dial gauge into four positions shown in Fig at which readings are taken.

Checking Alignment of Over Arm Support Bracket

B - Bore of the Bracket G - Dial Gauge
S - Spindle M - Mandrel

The difference between the two readings at opposite ends of a diameter is twice the amount of eccentricity in this direction. The eccentricities should be recorded as high or low and to left or to right, these directions referring to the position of the bracket bore relative to the spindle.
