Performance TestsPerformance Tests - Geometrical accuracy tests alone are inadequate to judge the machine tool performance \because they do not (or inadequately) reveal variations in rigidity of machine tool components, the quality of their manufacture and assembly, and especially, the influence of the machine fixture cutting tool workpiece system rigidity on the accuracy of machining. That is why Practical/ Performance test: are made compulsory for machine tools. These tests cover machining work samples including a check of their surface roughness. These tests should be carried out after the preliminary idle running of the machine tool with essential parts of the machine having a stabilized working temperature. Performance tests reveal the alignment accuracy of the machine tools under dynamic loading. Performance tests also indicate whether the machine has been installed correctly on its foundation and as per the specifications.Performance tests should be carried out on pieces, the making of which does not require operations other than those for which the machine has been built. Performance tests to as certain the precision of a machine tool should be the finishing operations for which the machine tool has been designed. Cutting tests, in the case of the lathe, cover mainly the turning of Cylindrical parts and the cutting of screw threads close to the headstock. |
