Squareness Testing

Squareness Testing - The relative squareness of two or more machine surfaces is sometimes required in machine toot tests, and this can be checked either with auto collimator or the square block level. Fig shows the general principle of the check with the autocollimator, travelling block, and optical square.

This method enables a straightness test on one surface to be continued on a surface at right angles, so that the accuracy of squareness of the mean plane of each surface may be estimated. For this test, the exact deviation of the optical square must be known to an accuracy, of about 1 second.
