S - Spindle M - Mandrel T - Table

A test mandrel (M) is fitted in the tapered hole of the spindle (S) and the dial gauge (G) is fixed on the Table (T) with its anvil bearing on the mandrel.

The spindle is adjusted in the middle position of its travel. The dial gauge readings are taken B in two planes (A) and (B) at right angle to each other. The readings are noted when the spindle is moved slowly in upper and lower directions of its middle position.

The permissible errors are:- For Planes A and B
(i) For machines with taper upto Morse No.2 0.03 / 100 mm
(ii) For machines with taper larger than Morse No.2 0.05 / 300 mm
