- If the live centre of the lathe headstock with which the workplace rotates, is not true with the axis of movement of the spindle, the axis of workpiece shall not coincide with the axis of rotation of the main spindle and the result is an eccentric job.
To test this error, the dial gauge (D) anvil is pressed perpendicular to the taper surface of the centre. The headstock spindle is then rotated and any variation in the dial gauge reading gives the idea of the trueness of the centre.
