Pantograph Die Sinking and Engraving MachinesPantograph Die Sinking and Engraving Machines - This machine operates on the copy principle; the shape required being obtained from a master copy by motion obtained through a pantograph. One of these machines is shown in Fig. The table to the right is the copy table, held on the horizontal sideway, with vertical and rotary movement. The work table has movement in three directions, controlled by screws and indicating sleeves.
Pantograph Die Sinking Machine The pantograph mechanism is carried above the two tables and incorporates the tracing pointer and the cutter head, the spindle being driven by a round or vee belt from a vertically mounted motor. The pantograph is designed to give a reduced copy of a motion in three directions at right angles, the vertical motion being obtained by mounting the unit so that it swings on a horizontal pivot. For two dimensional work the pantograph mechanism may be locked to prevent vertical movement. By varying the relative positions of the cutter and follower, reductions within a range of 1 to 1* 1/2 to 1 to 10 may be obtained. The spindle proper is detachable from the spindle head and is provided with interchangeable collets for carrying the shanks of the cutters used. A special automatic feeding arrangement is provided for controlling the depth of cut. The cutters used with these machines vary from 3 mm to 8 mm diameter, and the cutting edge is formed by grinding a piece of round tool steel to its centre, and then putting the desired profile on the end. A small cutter grinding machine is supplied, specially designed for producing the shapes required on the cutters. The range of these machines may be extended by the provision of auxiliary attachments including the following: (a) Cam forming arm. This allows the cutter to operate on concave, convex or spherical surfaces from a flat master. (b) Rotary attachment. To engrave over the periphery of cylindrical work. (c) Dividing head, mounted on a universal angle plate. (d) Circular table.
