MachinabilityMachinability - The term machinability is often applied to work materials to describe their machining properties. When it is stated that a material A is more machinable than material B, this can mean that (i) A lower tool wear rate is obtained with material A, or (ii) A better surface finish can be achieved with material A, or (iii) That less power is required to machine material A. Machinability is an involved term with many ramifications, but briefly defined it is the relative ease with which the chip may be separated from the base material. Machinability may be defined as the property of the material which governs the ease or difficulty with which it can be machined under a given set of conditions. |
